The Paperblanks Shiraz Ultra Lined Journal offers a luxurious writing experience in the Ultra format, measuring 175mm in width, 230mm in height and 18mm in depth. Inside are 144 lined pages crafted from premium 120gsm custom designed laid paper. With 25 lines per page and an 8.11mm line spacing, this journal provides a smooth and comfortable layout ideal for journaling, creative writing or thoughtful reflections. The FSC-certified, acid-free paper ensures durability and long-term preservation of your work.

The hardcover features decorative printed cover paper and 100% recycled binder boards, supported by threaded stitching and cloth headbands for enhanced structure. The Smyth sewn binding allows the notebook to open flat, while the elastic band closure securely protects your pages. Additional practical features include a memento pouch for storing notes or keepsakes and a ribbon marker for easy navigation.

The Shiraz cover design is inspired by a magnificent late 16th-century Persian goatskin bookbinding originally produced in Shiraz, one of the cultural centres of the Safavid Empire. The original binding was crafted from black goatskin and embellished with embossing, gilding, hand-painted flowers, rosettes and delicate gold filigree. This exquisite piece was believed to have been commissioned by a Safavid prince and later became part of the collection of Suleiman the Magnificent, the longest reigning Ottoman Sultan.

During the 16th century, Shiraz was renowned for its flourishing artistry, literature, poetry and gardens. The region’s artisans were celebrated for producing ornate, richly decorated manuscripts that were often traded with the Ottoman Empire. It was likely through this vibrant cultural exchange that the original binding reached Suleiman, himself a gifted poet, goldsmith and patron of the arts.

By bringing this historic Persian design into the modern era, the Shiraz Ultra Lined Journal reflects centuries of craftsmanship and cultural splendour, making it an inspiring and meaningful companion for writers and creatives.
